Calcasieu Correctional Center Inmate Dies in Custody, Authorities Indicate Foul Play Not Suspected

Lake Charles, Louisiana – On September 28, detectives from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to the Calcasieu Correctional Center following reports of the death of an inmate, Keith J. Meche, aged 63 and from Lake Charles, Louisiana.

According to initial investigations, other inmates sharing a cell with Meche had alerted correctional deputies to his possible medical distress shortly after midnight. Medical personnel from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury were attending to Meche when he is believed to have suffered cardiac arrest. Despite efforts by CPPJ employees and CPSO deputies to revive him,

Meche was later pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.

While the cause of death will be determined by the Calcasieu Coroner, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has indicated that foul play is not suspected.
