Burn Ban Issued October 13 for Calcasieu Parish Has Been Lifted

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury announced that the burn ban issued on October 13 has been lifted for all of Calcasieu Parish.

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – On October 13, 2022, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury announced that due to the current drought conditions, a burn ban for all of Calcasieu Parish has been issued. The executive order, signed by Police Jury President Tony Stelly, bans any outdoor private burning, except prescribed burns.
“We are now in a severe drought condition and will be until we get a significant amount of rain,” said Dick Gremillion, Director of the Calcasieu Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
Many other parishes in the state also have burn bans in place due to the dry weather and the risk of fire.
The decision also allows Calcasieu Parish Fire Departments the power to extinguish any fires that are in direct violation of the ban. Residents who violate the law may also face penalties.
