Benton, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a train and a fully marked patrol vehicle that claimed the life of a Bossier Parish Sheriff's deputy early Wednesday morning.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop G, the crash occurred at approximately 8 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 3 near Kingston Road in Bossier Parish. The single-vehicle incident involved a train and a 2019 Dodge Charger that was being used as a department-issued patrol unit.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Timothy Jordan of Bossier City, was on duty as a Bossier Parish Sheriff's Deputy at the time of the crash. Investigators say Jordan was conducting stationary enforcement — typically meaning monitoring traffic from a fixed position for speeding or other violations — when his vehicle was struck by the train.
Preliminary Investigation
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the scene shortly after 8 a.m. The early findings from the preliminary investigation indicate:
- Jordan was operating a fully marked 2019 Dodge Charger patrol vehicle.
- He was engaged in stationary enforcement along Louisiana Highway 3 near Kingston Road.
- At some point while he was in this fixed position, a train struck his vehicle.
Authorities have not yet released additional details on the exact positioning of the vehicle relative to the tracks, the direction of train travel, or the speed involved. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Suffered Severe Injuries
State Police report that Jordan was unrestrained at the time of the crash, meaning he was not wearing a seat belt. He sustained severe injuries when the train struck the patrol car.
Emergency responders transported Jordan from the scene to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.
No additional injuries have been publicly reported, and information on potential damage to the train or rail line has not been released.
Impairment Not Suspected, Toxicology Pending
Louisiana State Police stated that impairment is not suspected in this crash. As is standard protocol in fatal incidents, routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis.
Those test results are pending and could take additional time to be processed and reviewed.
