Bicyclist Critically Injured in Early Morning Hit-and-Run Crash on LA 34 in Louisiana, Authorities Seeking Driver

Louisiana – Authorities in Louisiana are seeking the driver in a hit-and-run crash on LA 34.

According to Louisiana State Police (LSP), Troop F began investigating a hit-and-run crash on Louisiana Highway 34 north of Louisiana Highway 557 on Friday, April 21, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m. Christopher Rice, 60, of West Monroe, Louisiana, was critically injured in this crash.

Rice was riding his bicycle south on Louisiana Highway 34, according to preliminary investigations. An unidentified vehicle was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 34 at the same time. The unidentified vehicle reportedly struck Rice for reasons that are still being investigated. He was thrown from the bicycle during the collision.

Rice received life-threatening injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities are asking that anyone with any information on this crash call Louisiana State Police Troop F at 318-345-0000.

Although the specific reason for this incident is still being investigated, Louisiana State Troopers caution cyclists that they should never presume a driver can see them. Basic precautions like wearing an appropriate bicycle helmet, using reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are critical to avoiding crashes and injuries.
