Lake Charles, Louisiana – After more than four years of closure following Hurricane Laura, Ball’s Fried Chick-N has officially reopened its doors in Lake Charles, Louisiana, drawing early morning crowds eager to welcome back the beloved local eatery.
The restaurant, which first opened in 2003, resumed operations Wednesday at its original location at 606 Enterprise Boulevard. Customers began lining up before the 10 a.m. opening, demonstrating the establishment’s significance to the community.
“Service was awesome, food is still exactly the same. Didn’t skip a beat,” one customer remarked after visiting the reopened restaurant.
The journey to reopening proved challenging for owners Reggie and Angela Ball. The initial damage from Hurricane Laura in 2020 was compounded by a tornado in April 2024, extending the recovery timeline and requiring extensive repairs including replacement of ceiling tiles, insulation, lighting, ductwork, and the air conditioning system.
To manage the transition, Ball’s Fried Chick-N is temporarily offering a limited menu featuring only chicken and sides, with call-in orders temporarily unavailable. Despite these limitations, customer feedback suggests the restaurant has maintained its signature flavor profile.
“It’s exactly like it used to be, if not better,” another patron noted, though adding, “I do feel it’s not quite as spicy though, which I prefer.”
The Ward 3 Marshal’s Office assisted with traffic management during the reopening, anticipating the large crowds that would gather. Meanwhile, the City of Lake Charles enhanced the experience by setting up tables, chairs, and music in Nellie Lutcher Memorial Park, allowing customers to enjoy their meals outdoors.
The Ball family has expressed gratitude for community support throughout the recovery process, including prayers, donations, and encouragement from residents, businesses, and city officials.
For many in Southwest Louisiana, Ball’s Fried Chick-N represents more than just a restaurant. The Ball family has emphasized that the reopening symbolizes the restoration of a legacy and their commitment to serving the community with “love and resilience.”
As one of Lake Charles’ culinary landmarks returns, its reopening marks another step in the region’s ongoing hurricane recovery efforts.
