Bailiff in Louisiana Arrested and Fired After Allegedly Victimizing the Elderly

Shreveport, Louisiana – On October 14, 2022, Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator announced that he had fired a ten-year deputy after detectives determined he participated in the exploitation of an elderly person.

“I’m extremely disappointed in this person’s criminal behavior,” said Sheriff Prator. “He is an embarrassment to the brave men and women who work tirelessly to gain the trust of those we serve.”

Joey Lee, 33, allegedly went to a victim’s residence in the 1800 block of East Kings Highway in Shreveport, Louisiana many times while in uniform and persuaded her into giving him roughly $15,000 in cash over the course of three months, according to the investigation.

While in uniform, Lee cashed stolen fraudulent checks at at least one convenience store in Shreveport.

Lee was arrested and booked into Caddo Correctional Center. Lee has been charged with forgery, exploitation of persons with infirmities, extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion, and malfeasance in office.
Caddo detectives were notified of the incident on Wednesday, October 12. Following the inquiry and subsequent arrest, Lee was placed on administrative leave without pay and later fired.

Authorities indicated that only one victim has been identified in the case so far. The probe is still going on.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
