Authorities in Louisiana Warn of Scammers Calling From Numbers That Appear to Belong to Louisiana State Police

Louisiana – Authorities in Louisiana are warning the public of scammers calling from numbers that appear to belong to the Louisiana State Police.

On March 23, 2023, Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that, in response to many citizen complaints, Troopers would like to alert the public to a current phone scam involving the impersonation of Louisiana State Police officials. Scammers are attempting to gain information from victims by fraudulently utilizing the authority of the Louisiana State Police.

These impersonators are apparently phoning potential victims’ phones by using a call that appears to originate from a phone number belonging to the Louisiana State Police. According to the complainants, the caller poses as law enforcement and seeks to obtain personal information from the victim over the phone.

Troopers emphasize that individuals should never provide personal information to unsolicited callers, and the Louisiana State Police would never ask for payment or monetary donations over the phone.

Individuals who suspect fraudulent phone calls should notify the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Center (LA-SAFE) at 225-925-4192. The public can also use the Louisiana State Police online reporting system, which includes a quick and secure reporting form that is reported to the relevant investigators. People can get to the form by going to the LA-SAFE website, http://la-safe.org/, and clicking the “report suspicious activity” link.
