Authorities in Louisiana Asking For Help Locating Murder Suspect in May 24 Shooting in Lake Charles

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Authorities in Louisiana are asking for help in locating a murder suspect involved in a shooting on May 24 in Lake Charles.

On May 25, 2023, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) stated that deputies were summoned to the 2400 block of 4th Avenue, near a park, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in relation to shots fired on May 24 at approximately 7:30 p.m. The complainant informed CPSO Communications deputies that numerous shots were heard and that a white automobile was seen exiting the area.

According to CPSO reports, detectives discovered that the victim, Markell B. Jackson, 18, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, had been transferred to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Jackson was later declared dead.

Investigators reviewed security footage from the scene of the shooting and identified numerous potential suspects. After further investigation, CPSO investigators filed a warrant for Demontoriyuana Charles, 18, of Lake Charles, Louisiana signed by Judge Ronald Ware, charging him with 2nd-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of a weapon. His bond has been set at $680,000.

Investigators from the CPSO are presently looking for Charles.

Anybody with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the CPSO at 337-491-3605. According to the CPSO, anyone assisting or harboring him will face charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are probable.

The principal investigator in this case is CPSO Detective Michelle Robinson.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
