Authorities in Louisiana Arrest Suspect in Connection with May 18 Home Invasion in Terrebonne Parish

Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana – Authorities in Louisiana have arrested a suspect in connection with a May 18 home invasion in Terrebonne Parish.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Denham Springs, Louisiana man in connection with a Home Invasion Investigation that occurred in May 2023 at a residence on Houma’s Westside. Tyreke Chaney, 22, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, was arrested on charges related to the investigation on June 1.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office was summoned to an address in the 200 block of Bellingrath Drive soon after 1:30 a.m. on May 18, after learning that the home had been entered by two masked gunmen. The TPSO Patrol Division responded immediately to the house, discovered that the homeowners were unharmed, and established that the assailants fled the scene before Deputies arrived. When TPSO Deputies began their initial investigation, they discovered indicators and evidence that showed the home had been the scene of a crime.

The TPSO’s Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) was called to the location to investigate, and as a result, video footage of the surrounding area was obtained and forwarded to CIU Detectives. The Detectives were able to identify a vehicle associated to the crime and obtain evidence that linked probable suspects to the incident by combining this footage with other investigation databases.

Because of video surveillance and the usage of databases, the CIU was able to work fast. This enabled them to locate a vehicle associated with the crime and unearth evidence linking suspects to the incident.

Subsequent investigations by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit resulted in the identification of a suspect in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana region. CIU Detectives worked with the Zachary Police Department, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office to execute various search warrants, which allowed them to positively identify one of the suspects as Tyreke Chaney of Denham Springs, Louisiana. CIU Investigators in Terrebonne Parish acquired an arrest warrant for Tyreke Chaney in connection with the Home Invasion.

Tyreke Chaney was apprehended by authorities in Ascension Parish on June 1 for an outstanding warrant. Chaney was then returned to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he is being held on a $350,000 bail at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.

Sheriff Tim Soignet indicated that he is pleased with the outstanding work completed by the TPSO Patrol Division and Criminal Intelligence Unit, in this investigation. Sheriff Tim Soignet said, “I’m very proud of the quality work completed by our CIU Detectives and our Public Safety partners in the apprehension of this dangerous offender. Our Investigative Divisions do an unbelievable job of not only investigating crimes but continuing to foster relationships with our Public Safety partners, which is vital to bringing offenders to justice.”

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
