Authorities in Louisiana Arrest Suspect After He Allegedly Attempted to Drive Away with Deputy’s Arm in Window in Sulphur

Sulphur, Louisiana – Authorities in Louisiana arrest a suspect after he allegedly attempted to drive away with a deputy’s arm in the window.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) stated on March 8, 2023, that at around 1:00 p.m., deputies were out in the area of the 100 block of Vine Street in Sulphur, Louisiana, investigating a suspicious vehicle.

As deputies sought to speak with the driver, Clausy Bernard, 36, he allegedly rolled up his window and attempted to drive away with the deputy’s arm inside. Deputies fired at the car window to free the deputy’s arm. Bernard was able to flee in his white Toyota Camry with expired paper license plates. Deputies then began a search for Bernard. Bernard was also discovered to be wanted on out-of-state warrants.

At 2:05 pm, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office indicated that Bernard had been located and taken into custody.

The investigation is still being conducted by CPSO deputies and detectives and is still in its early stages.

As a result of this event, several schools in Sulphur were placed on precautionary lockdown.

A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
