Authorities are Searching for the Person Responsible for a Fatal Hit-and-Run in Lake Charles

From the Lake Charles Police Department – On Thursday, January 9th, 2020, at approximately 0403 hours, Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were notified of an auto-pedestrian crash at the intersection of East Broad Street and J. Bennet Johnston Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian, 43-year-old, William Wingate III of Lake Charles, deceased near the roadway. During the investigation, officers determined that Wingate had been struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene without stopping.
The Lake Charles Police Department is asking the public for assistance from anyone who may have information relating to the crash. Cpl Brad Puckett was the responding officer and Cpl Rodney Grantham with the Lake Charles Police Department Traffic Division is the lead investigator.
