Attempted Murder Investigation in Louisiana Results in Arrest of Three Suspects
An attempted murder investigation in Louisiana has resulted in the arrest of three suspects.
Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana – On February 15, 2023, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet reported the arrest of three suspects in connection with a St. Louis Street investigation in the 200 block. Michael Dewayne Diggs Jr., age forty, Adrina Renee Leonard, age twenty-six, and Joey Paul Levron, age thirty-nine, all of Houma, Louisiana, were arrested on charges resulting from the investigation.
Tuesday, the Terrebonne Parish Narcotics Task Force got information from an anonymous source regarding the location of a known person wanted in Terrebonne Parish for Attempted Second-Degree Murder and other crimes.
Through further research, TPSO Narcotics Agents determined that Michael Diggs Jr. was wanted for charges related to a September 2022 shooting that was under investigation by the Houma Police Department. TPSO Agents were able to link Diggs to an address in the 200 block of St. Louis Street and affirm that he was present at the address during the investigation.
TPSO Narcotics Agents, aided by the TPSO Swat Team, came to the property in an attempt to seize Diggs on the outstanding warrants; however, the Agents spotted Diggs fleeing the residence on foot. Diggs was spotted in a water canal near Morrison Avenue and quickly apprehended by a TPSO K-9. During the inquiry, agents discovered a number of occupants of the residence in question, who were arrested without incident.
As the investigation continued, TPSO Agents were able to corroborate that Diggs continued to dodge law enforcement while staying at the property.
Agents searched the residence and reportedly discovered narcotics and contraband. During the course of the inquiry, agents determined that Adrina Renee Leonard was Diggs’ girlfriend and that Joey Levron was the owner of the residence.
Later, agents apprehended Joey Paul Levron on charges of Harboring a Fugitive, Obstruction of Justice (2 counts), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Levron was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where he remains in jail on a $25,200 bond set by local judges.
Agents subsequently arrested Adrina Renee Leonard on accusations of Harboring a Fugitive, Obstruction of Justice (2 counts), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and many outstanding arrest warrants. Leonard was brought to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where she remains incarcerated in lieu of an $11,200 bond set by local judges.
Michael Dewayne Diggs Jr. was subsequently arrested on charges of Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Illegal Discharge of Weapon or Dangerous Instrumentality, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm (2 counts), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and arrest warrants for Failure to Appear (2 counts).
Diggs was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where he remains held on a $1,197,700.00 bond imposed by local judges.
Sheriff Tim Soignet commended the quick response of the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and SWAT Team, which directly affected the apprehension of Michael Diggs, and the overall safe resolution of this incident. Sheriff Soignet said, “Our Agents and SWAT Team are amazing at what they do, and they removed a very violent offender from our streets. This is another example of what safety standard can be achieved when the community and Law Enforcement work together.”
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
