Update: This outage has been resolved.
Original: Lake Charles, Louisiana – Southwest Louisiana is facing significant disruptions in internet, wireless, and phone services due to an AT&T outage that began around 2 PM on Tuesday afternoon. The incident has raised concerns among residents and local authorities, particularly as it impacts vital communication services.
Emergency services in Calcasieu Parish and Beauregard Parish are among those affected, as both 911 call centers are experiencing difficulties receiving calls from landlines. Many businesses in the region have reported complications with operational capabilities, unable to take online and call-in orders, while some have found it challenging to function at all during this outage.
Despite the widespread disruption, reports indicate that some AT&T mobile users are still able to access voice and internet services on their mobile devices.
Local government offices are also feeling the effects, as interruptions in phone and internet service hinder their operations. The cause of the outage has been attributed to issues with fiber equipment, a crucial component for delivering high-speed internet and phone services. Fiber optics use thin strands of glass or plastic to transmit data as pulses of light, allowing for faster connections compared to traditional copper lines.
As of this publication, no other internet service providers in Southwest Louisiana have reported outages. AT&T has not yet provided a timeline for when services are expected to be restored.
