Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal August Shooting in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Martrelle Hamilton, which occurred on August 29, 2024, at Uncle Moe’s Food Mart on Plank Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives have apprehended 23-year-old Sakyron Taylor in connection with the shooting.

According to authorities, the incident began as a physical altercation between Hamilton and an unknown male at approximately 5:30 p.m. on August 29. After the fight, the male allegedly armed himself with a firearm and opened fire on Hamilton as he was returning to his vehicle. Hamilton was struck multiple times and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following an investigation, detectives identified Taylor as the suspect and took him into custody. He has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

The Baton Rouge Police Department’s Violent Crimes Division and Crime Stoppers had been working together to gather information and identify the suspect.
