Another Louisiana Juvenile Has Been Arrested in Connection with an October Homicide

LaPlace, Louisiana – A 16-year-old male from LaPlace, Louisiana has been charged with obstructing justice in connection with the October shooting death of Yasmine Halum. A 15-year-old was previously charged with second-degree murder in the case.

The St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said that on December 15, 2022, a 16-year-old male from LaPlace, Louisiana was detained in connection with the October shooting death of Yasmine Halum from LaPlace.

Through their investigation, officers discovered that the minor allegedly participated in the removal of homicide-related evidence. On the basis of their investigation, investigators issued an arrest warrant for the minor. He has been charged with obstructing justice. He was released to a parent on December 15, 2022.

In October, a 15-year-old youth from LaPlace was charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of Halum. On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at about 3 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 1400 block of Van Arpel Drive in LaPlace in response to reports of gunfire. Halum, a female individual, was discovered unresponsive in the front yard of a property by responding officers. She suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. Halum was brought to a nearby hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
