Another Downtown Lake Charles Business Closing – Is it for Good?

May 11, 2018 – Not so long ago the popular Downtown Lake Charles music venue and hangout, Luna Live, closed their doors permanently. The venue was known for having a large craft beer selection, food from the Luna Bar & Grill menu, as well as entertainment almost every night of the week.
Recently I came across a post on social media from a local musician that read “Sorry to inform you folks, but tonight’s show at Sloppy’s Downtown is canceled.” At first, I thought the local artist had something come up in his personal life that may have prompted him to reschedule his performance. Sadly, after reading through the comments on his post and checking the Sloppy’s Downtown Facebook page I found that the business is closing. At least temporarily anyway.
The pinned post on the Sloppy’s Downtown Facebook page reads”
“Hey folks,
Sloppy’s Downtown is recently undergoing substantial changes! We appreciate you’re patience, understanding, and support. We’ve decided to take some time off while in this process. We truly love you guys, and hope to be back at it soon!”
Comments on both posts showed support for the business that has served their Globally-inspired street foods, hand-tossed pizza, as well as brews, and craft cocktails at their Downtown Location on Broad Street since late 2016.
A local news station recently did a report about small businesses having a hard time in Downtown Lake Charles. Hopefully, Sloppy’s isn’t another one that has to close their doors permanently.
One of the owners of Sloppy’s did recently mention that they were considering opening a restaurant at another downtown location.
At the time this article was written, there was no mention why they were closing or when the business plans to re-open.
UPDATE
On October 12, 2018, the owners of Rikenjaks acquired the location at 329 Broad Street that used to house Sloppy’s Downtown. The old Luna Live location at 710 Broad Street was also taken over by a new venue called Zephyr around the same time. Read the two articles linked below for more information.
