Lake Charles, Louisiana - In a momentous occasion, Mayor Nic Hunter alongside District C Councilman Rodney Geyen and city officials gathered on Wednesday, May 1 to mark the groundbreaking of the much-anticipated Anita Drive Park.

The future park, set to grace the corner of Anita Drive and Ryder Avenue, is poised to become a hub of recreational activities for residents of all ages. Among its notable features will be a captivating splash pad, sprawling green spaces, a winding walking trail, a charming gazebo, and convenient bike racks.

Mayor Nic Hunter expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the park's significance for the entire community, especially the vibrant mid-City area.

District C Councilman Rodney Geyen, shared his long-held dream of introducing a park to this part of the city.

Funded predominantly by a Love Louisiana Outdoors Grant facilitated by the Louisiana Office of Community Development, Anita Drive Park is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024, weather permitting.

Furthermore, Mayor Hunter shed light on additional community services earmarked for the Anita Drive vicinity. Plans outlined in the recently approved LC Rebound bond proposal encompass the establishment of a Youth Center to host a Boys and Girls Clubs branch at the park site. This multipurpose facility will also function as a Community Resilience Hub, ready to activate during natural disasters to provide essential support to residents before and after disasters.
