An Adult and Teen Suspect Have Been Arrested in Louisiana in Connection with Firearms Charges and Other Crimes
Monroe, Louisiana – Two suspects, an adult, and a teen, have been arrested in Louisiana in connection with firearms charges and other crimes.
The Monroe Police Department (MPD) announced on May 26, 2023, that on May 25, officers executed a search warrant at an address in the 4200 Block of Simon Street in an attempt to find a suspect, Malik Long. Malik and a second seventeen-year-old juvenile suspect reportedly refused to exit the home. For almost two hours, the MPD SWAT team negotiated with both suspects. As the suspects refused to leave the home, the MPD SWAT team fired CS gas into the home. Malik and the juvenile suspect were both taken into custody without incident after CS Gas was deployed into the home.
Malik Long was wanted on three counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting at MPD officers in January 2023. Malik was also wanted for two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with a January 2023 shooting that injured two young victims. Malik and the seventeen-year-old juvenile were also wanted in connection with illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property for a recent incident at a Walmart in Monroe, Louisiana.
During the arrest of these two suspects, an AR-15 rifle and a Glock handgun with an extended magazine were reportedly recovered. According to authorities, both of these firearms are thought to have been used in recent shootings.
