Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has released an updated schedule for upcoming lane closures on Interstate 210 westbound as crews work to repair lighting infrastructure damaged during Hurricane Laura.

The updated closure schedule will affect the westbound lanes between Exit 3 and Mile Marker 1 over the next two weeks. Traffic will experience varying levels of disruption depending on the date and time of travel.

Beginning Friday, August 29, 2025, at 6 p.m., all lanes will remain open through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. This extended opening accommodates Labor Day holiday weekend travelers who typically experience heavier traffic volumes on this corridor.

Construction activities will resume Tuesday morning, September 2, at 6 a.m., when crews will close the westbound left lane through 6 p.m. on Friday, September 5. During this four-day period, electrical work will take place as part of the lighting repair project.

Weekend travelers will again benefit from full lane access beginning Friday, September 5, at 6 p.m. through Monday, September 8, at 6 a.m. The transportation department scheduled this opening to accommodate weekend traffic patterns and reduce congestion during non-work hours.

A brief closure will occur Monday, September 8, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., when the westbound left lane will be restricted for inspection activities. This single-day closure allows crews to evaluate completed electrical work and ensure all systems function properly before reopening.

Following the Monday inspection period, all lanes will reopen at 6 p.m. on September 8, marking the completion of this phase of the Hurricane Laura lighting repair project.

Hurricane Laura, which made landfall in Louisiana in August 2020, caused extensive damage to transportation infrastructure throughout the region. The storm’s high winds and debris damaged lighting systems, traffic signals, and electrical components along numerous state highways and interstates.

The project’s completion will restore full lighting functionality to this section of Interstate 210, improving visibility and safety for drivers traveling through the corridor during nighttime and low-visibility conditions.
