Additional $26M For Hurricane Recovery Efforts in Southwest Louisiana Announced by Congressman Higgins
Louisiana / Washington, D.C. – On September 21, 2022, Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana announced that FEMA is awarding an additional $26,131,734.90 in Public Assistance reimbursements for storm recovery work in Southwest Louisiana.
The funds are made available as a result of Congressman Higgins’ support for the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura (DR-4559-LA).
Among the reimbursements are:
$3,654,302.40 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for permanent repairs at Lewis Middle School in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
$22,477,432.50 to the Jeff Davis Electric Co-Op for transmission line restoration as a result of Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement regarding the funding:
“We have delivered over $3.5 billion in federal disaster relief following Hurricanes Laura and Delta. My office continues to work closely with FEMA and our state and local partners to expedite disaster reimbursements. We will not stop working for Southwest Louisiana.”
