A Louisiana Felon Has Been Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison After Being Spotted with a Firearm by Police

New Orleans, Louisiana – A Louisiana felon has been sentenced to ten years in prison for two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On Friday, January 13, 2023, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that defendant Rhobahis Holmes, a/k/a “Wild Card,” of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced on January 10, 2023, by U.S. District Court Judge Susie Morgan to a prison term of one hundred and twenty months (10 years), for two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1), to be run concurrently. Judge Morgan ordered that Holmes shall be on supervised release for a term of three (3) years following his release from imprisonment. Holmes was also ordered to pay a mandatory $200 special assessment fee.

According to public records, Holmes was also seen with a firearm on July 22, 2020. On that day, Holmes was seen adjusting the firearm while conducting what seemed to be narcotics dealings in the 1700 block of Monroe Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Holmes was eventually apprehended inside a vehicle, where police discovered a Smith & Wesson firearm.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to prevent violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy to strengthen PSN based on the following core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

U.S. Attorney Evans applauded the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mike Trummel of the U.S. Attorney's Office's Violent Crime Unit.
