Calcasieu Parish – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle, serious injury crash on LA Hwy 27 about 3 miles south of Dequincy on February 3, 2022, shortly after 7:30 a.m. Logan Copeland of Dequincy, 20 years old, was killed in the crash. The initial investigation revealed that Copeland was driving a 2019 Honda Civic south on LA 27. Copeland lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons and crossed the center line into the opposing lane of travel. Simultaneously, the driver of a 2013 Ford pickup truck was driving north on LA 27. The driver of the Ford attempted to avoid the collision but collided with the Honda’s front passenger side.

Copeland, who was restrained properly, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Ford’s driver and passenger were both properly restrained and suffered minor to moderate injuries. Although no impairment is suspected, toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash is still being investigated.

Troop D was notified on February 4, 2022, that Copeland had died as a result of his injuries.

In 2022, Troop D investigated one fatal crash that resulted in one death.
