Calcasieu Parish — What is coming this week

Mail ballots due Monday, Election Day Tuesday
A voted absentee ballot for the November 3 election must reach the parish registrar of voters by Monday, November 2, at 4:30 p.m. Different rules apply to military and overseas voters. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check your registration, sample ballot, and polling place through the Secretary of State's GeauxVote voter portal before you go.

Burn ban still in effect — no outdoor private burning
Calcasieu Parish remains under the burn ban issued October 14, 2026. The Police Jury notice, signed by Police Jury President Brian Abshire, prohibits all outdoor private burning of any kind; prescribed burns are not included. The notice states no end date, and no lifting notice was found in this November 1 check. Tuesday's rain does not lift a ban on its own — do not burn outdoors unless the ban is lifted.

I-10 westbound: overnight bridge closures continue, PPG Drive ramp stays closed
Westbound I-10 over the Calcasieu River Bridge closes Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., under the times posted October 21, with the work running until mid-December, weather permitting, and no closures during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday weeks. The detour runs via Lakeshore Drive, eastbound I-10, and I-210 West. The westbound I-10 entrance ramp at PPG Drive (Exit 26) remains closed until February 2027 so crews can build a new permanent roadway, with a detour via U.S. 90 West and LA 108 South. Beauregard ban still listed; no new postings found elsewhere in SWLA
Beauregard Parish was on the state's October 16 burn-ban list, and no lifting notice was found in this check. No new postings for Jeff Davis or Allen parishes were found in the sources checked for this week. Hunters should also note that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries restricted open fires, including campfires, on Wildlife Management Areas in parishes under burn bans, in a notice dated October 23, until conditions improve and the bans are lifted.

Louisiana — Only what affects SWLA readers

The election calendar from here
After Monday's mail-ballot receipt deadline and Tuesday's Election Day, the next statewide dates on the Secretary of State's calendar belong to the December 12 election, which does not include a Southwest Louisiana contest — so for most SWLA readers, this week's deadlines are the ones that matter. Anyone with questions about voting should call the Secretary of State's elections hotline at 1-800-883-2805.

Weather, fire danger, and roads outlook

Weather: Monday brings a slight chance of showers between 1 and 3 p.m. and patchy fog before 9 a.m., otherwise cloudy then gradually mostly sunny, with a high near 83; Monday night carries a 30 percent chance of showers after midnight and a low around 71. Tuesday is the wet day: showers, with thunderstorms possible after 9 a.m., a high near 82, and a 90 percent chance of precipitation, with south winds gusting to 20 mph — plan Election Day travel around the rain. Tuesday night stays showery before midnight, with a low around 63. Wednesday turns mostly sunny near 78, Thursday is sunny near 79, and Friday is mostly sunny near 78, with overnight lows dropping into the 50s by Friday night. Saturday is mostly sunny near 76, and Sunday is mostly sunny near 74 with a slight chance of showers. A week-ahead outlook can shift, so recheck the National Weather Service Lake Charles forecast before Tuesday and weekend plans.

Fire danger: No Red Flag Warning banner appeared on the National Weather Service Lake Charles point forecast page in this November 1 check, but burn bans remain in effect in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes, and Beauregard remains on the state's list — so Tuesday's rain does not change what residents may burn. Do not assume a ban has lifted; check first.

Roads: Beyond the I-10 work above, no new DOTD closure announcements for this week were found in this check. Check 511la.org before traveling.
