Weather, fire danger, and roads
Weather today: Sunny, with a high near 84. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Tonight, clear, with a low around 57 (low 50s in northern Calcasieu, including Sulphur and Westlake). Friday, sunny, high near 85. No weather alerts are in effect. (National Weather Service, Lake Charles)
Fire danger: The parishwide burn ban remains in effect (above). The NWS fire weather forecast shows afternoon humidity falling to 20–35% today with light winds — no Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch, but dry fuels keep afternoon fire danger elevated. Roads — I-10 West Calcasieu River Bridge times updated: DOTD posted new closure times yesterday afternoon: the westbound lanes close completely 7 p.m.–5 a.m., Sunday–Thursday nights, through mid-December (this changes the earlier 7–10 p.m. single-lane / 10 p.m.–5 a.m. full-closure schedule). Detour: Lakeshore Drive (Exit 30A) to eastbound I-10 to I-210 West and back to I-10 West; through motorists are advised to use the I-210 West Lake Charles By-Pass (Exit 34). Westbound work is followed by about six weeks of eastbound work; the project completes around May 2027. No closures during Thanksgiving or Christmas weeks. The I-210 West flyover to I-10 West remains reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction through Oct. 2027. Check Louisiana 511 for live conditions before you travel.
