Vinton, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced an overnight lane closure on Interstate 10 westbound in Vinton for roadway maintenance.
According to the agency, the right lane of I-10 westbound will be closed from Coone Gully at mile marker 9.5 to Exit 7 in Vinton from 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026, until 3 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
DOTD said the closure is needed so crews can perform roadway maintenance, which generally includes work to keep the driving surface in safe condition and to support traffic flow. The department did not release additional details about the specific maintenance planned for that stretch of interstate.
The affected section is along a key route in southwest Louisiana, and drivers traveling through Vinton should expect a reduced traffic lane during the closure period. Motorists may want to allow extra travel time and use caution in the work zone, especially during the evening and overnight hours when visibility can be lower.
Interstate 10 is one of the main east-west highways in Louisiana, and even a single-lane closure can slow traffic, particularly near exits and merge areas. In this case, the work zone will extend from Coone Gully to Exit 7, narrowing westbound traffic to fewer open lanes for about nine hours.
The closure is scheduled to begin Tuesday evening and continue into early Wednesday morning. Once the work is completed, the right lane is expected to reopen by 3 a.m., according to DOTD.
