Lake Charles, Louisiana - Lake Charles drivers are being urged to plan ahead as the city prepares for lane closures on West Sallier Street tied to ongoing underground utility repairs.

According to the City of Lake Charles, both eastbound lanes in the 200 block of West Sallier Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, Feb. 6, during daytime hours for a concrete pour. The closure will remain in place through the overnight hours to allow the concrete to cure, a process in which newly poured concrete hardens and gains strength.

City officials stated that the lane closures are necessary to support work by a Delta Utilities contractor, which is performing repairs to underground utilities in the area. Underground utilities typically include water, sewer, or other buried service lines that require excavation and restoration of the roadway once repairs are complete.

In addition to the eastbound closure, the city noted that the westbound lanes of West Sallier Street between Kennedy and Western streets remain closed. Motorists should also expect intermittent closures of the westbound lanes of West Sallier Street between Ryan and Lake streets as work progresses.

The city advised that truck traffic use Lake Street as an alternate route. While the notice does not specify exact times beyond “daytime hours” and “overnight,” drivers should be prepared for limited access along the affected segments of West Sallier Street throughout Friday and into early Saturday.

Motorists who regularly travel West Sallier Street are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use alternate routes when possible, and remain alert to changing traffic control devices and construction crews in the work zone.
