Laplace, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 66-year-old Montz resident in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Kyrian Joseph Jr. of Laplace turned himself in to authorities on Monday, November 3, 2025, following an investigation into the October 24, 2025, crash that claimed the life of John Martin. State Troopers from Troop B booked Joseph Jr. into the St. John the Baptist Parish Jail on charges of Hit-and-Run Driving.

According to Louisiana State Police, investigators determined that Joseph Jr. was driving a 2018 Dodge Charger when the vehicle struck Martin. Following their findings, Troopers secured an arrest warrant for Joseph Jr. through the 40th Judicial District Court.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Louisiana State Police have not released additional details about the crash location or the events leading up to the collision.

Hit-and-run crashes, which occur when a driver leaves the scene of a crash without providing information or rendering aid, carry serious legal consequences in Louisiana. The charge can result in significant penalties, particularly in cases involving fatalities.

Martin, who resided in Montz, was 66 years old at the time of the fatal crash. Louisiana State Police have not disclosed whether Martin was a pedestrian, bicyclist, or vehicle occupant when the crash occurred.

Joseph Jr.'s decision to turn himself in came approximately 10 days after the initial crash. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Louisiana State Troopers from Troop B, which covers several parishes in southeastern Louisiana, are handling the ongoing investigation. The agency has not announced a timeline for when the investigation might conclude.
