Amite, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police Troop L is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 55 near LA Highway 16 in Tangipahoa Parish on October 20, 2025. The crash claimed the life of 48-year-old Rashida H. Taylor of Prairieville.
Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 10:50 p.m. after receiving reports of the crash. According to the preliminary investigation, Taylor was operating a 2005 Toyota Corolla in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 when the vehicle departed the roadway to the right for reasons that remain under investigation.
The Toyota overturned and struck a tree. Taylor, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Louisiana State Police obtained a routine toxicology sample as part of the ongoing investigation. The sample will be analyzed to determine whether impairment played a role in the crash.
The investigation into the crash remains active. Louisiana State Police have not released additional details regarding what may have caused Taylor to travel off the roadway.
Louisiana law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. Failure to wear a seat belt is a primary offense in Louisiana, meaning law enforcement officers can stop and ticket motorists solely for not wearing a seat belt.
