Sulphur, Louisiana - A clothes dryer fire damaged a home in the 3800 block of Gill Drive, north of Sulphur, Friday morning, prompting a multi-agency emergency response that included mutual aid from the Sulphur Fire Department.

Houston River Fire Department received the initial dispatch at approximately 8:30 a.m. on September 26. Command Unit 91 arrived to find flames and smoke visible from the back door area of the residence.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, but not before the home sustained heavy smoke damage throughout and moderate fire damage to portions of the structure. The fire originated in a clothes dryer, according to the department's incident report.

Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One responded under automatic aid protocols, while Sulphur Fire Department provided mutual aid assistance.

All occupants and pets evacuated safely before emergency crews arrived. However, one firefighter sustained minor injuries during suppression operations and received treatment at the scene from Acadian Ambulance personnel.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office also responded to assist with scene security and traffic control during the emergency operations.

Due to the extensive smoke damage, the American Red Cross was contacted to provide temporary housing assistance for the displaced residents. The organization typically helps families affected by house fires with immediate needs such as lodging, food, and clothing.

Mutual aid agreements between fire departments allow agencies to share resources and personnel during large incidents or when additional equipment is needed. These partnerships ensure adequate emergency response coverage across parish boundaries.
