Iowa, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a missing Jennings woman on an Interstate 10 frontage road in Jefferson Davis Parish.

Bonnie Fontenot, 53, of Jennings, Louisiana, died after being struck by an unknown vehicle on August 27, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. The crash occurred on the Interstate 10 frontage road just east of U.S. Highway 165. Fontenot had previously been reported missing by the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office.

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the scene and began their investigation into the fatal incident. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle traveling on the Interstate 10 frontage road struck Fontenot before leaving the scene.

Fontenot sustained fatal injuries from the impact and died at the crash site. The driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene or report the incident to authorities.

The investigation remains active as Louisiana State Police work to determine the make and model of the suspect vehicle, as well as identify the driver involved in the hit-and-run crash. Troopers are examining physical evidence from the scene and reviewing any available surveillance footage from the area.

Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians present unique challenges for law enforcement, as investigators must rely on witness statements, physical evidence, and surveillance video to identify suspect vehicles. The Interstate 10 corridor sees heavy traffic throughout the day, which may provide additional opportunities for witnesses to come forward.

Jefferson Davis Parish is located in southwestern Louisiana, with Interstate 10 serving as a major east-west transportation route through the region. The frontage roads that run parallel to the interstate provide local access to businesses and residential areas.

Louisiana State Police are urging anyone with information related to this fatal hit-and-run crash to contact authorities. Witnesses who may have seen the incident or noticed a damaged vehicle in the area around the time of the crash are encouraged to come forward.

The investigation into Fontenot's death continues as troopers work to bring closure to her family and hold the responsible driver accountable. Louisiana law requires drivers involved in crashes to remain at the scene and render aid when possible.
