Lake Charles, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced alternating lane closures along LA 14 northbound between Power Center Parkway and East Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles, beginning Monday, August 25, 2025, and continuing through Friday, October 31, 2025.
The affected section of LA 14 is just north of Interstate 210, a busy route often used by commuters and commercial vehicles. During the construction period, a 12-foot width restriction will apply to all vehicles traveling through the area. This means wide loads, including some larger trucks and trailers, will not be allowed through this stretch and must seek alternate routes.
The closures and restrictions are necessary for crews to perform pavement patching and curb repair. Pavement patching improves the smoothness and durability of the road surface by replacing weakened or damaged areas, while curb repair addresses water drainage and roadway edge integrity. Both types of work are vital for road safety and for extending the lifespan of the highway, though they may cause short-term inconvenience to drivers.
Alternating lane closures mean that while one lane is closed for repairs, the other will remain open to traffic, with the pattern switching as needed to allow crews access to different parts of the roadway. Travelers should anticipate reduced speeds, temporary lane shifts, and possible delays, especially during peak travel times. Electronic signage, cones, and flaggers will be used to help direct traffic safely through the construction zone.
Drivers in Lake Charles and surrounding Calcasieu Parish should plan for extra travel time and consider using alternative routes where possible.
The Department of Transportation urges all motorists to exercise caution near work crews and strictly observe posted speed limits and signage.
