Calcasieu Parish Ward 6 Fire Responds to 26 Emergency Calls in July 2025

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana - Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, which serves areas around DeQuincy and North Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish, responded to 26 emergency calls during July 2025. The department addressed a range of incidents, including multiple building fires, vehicle crashes, and hazardous conditions, demonstrating its continued commitment to public safety in rural Louisiana.

According to Ward 6 Fire’s report, the department’s call volume for July comprised four building fires, three incidents involving arcing or shorted electrical equipment, and five public service responses. Three incidents required fire units to be dispatched but later canceled en route, while responders handled three motor vehicle crashes, a hazardous condition, a chemical leak, and a grass fire. Additional calls included one each for an authorized controlled burn, a smoke scare, smoke detector activation, a fire alarm, and an extrication incident.

The department consists of volunteers and both full- and part-time firefighters, all trained across multiple disciplines, including hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication (using equipment commonly called the "Jaws of Life"), and basic medical care like CPR and AED usage.

Volunteer service remains the backbone of Ward 6. Additional volunteers are needed to maintain and improve response capabilities. No previous experience is required; the department provides all necessary training. Ward Six Fire Protection District also collaborates with neighboring departments in Calcasieu Parish, such as DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department and Houston River Fire Department, providing and receiving mutual aid when needed.
