Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Wednesday afternoon by the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, placing southeastern Calcasieu Parish—including Lake Charles, Lake Charles Regional Airport, and Holmwood—at risk of severe weather until 5:45 p.m. CDT. Meteorologists detected a significant storm moving southeast at 15 mph, centered near Lake Charles Regional Airport, with radar indicating the potential for wind gusts up to 60 mph. These wind speeds are strong enough to cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees, according to weather experts.

Authorities urged residents in the warned area to seek shelter immediately, emphasizing the importance of moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. In addition to damaging winds, the storm may produce torrential rainfall, increasing concerns about flash flooding. Officials cautioned against driving through flooded roadways, highlighting that even a small amount of moving water can strand vehicles and pose significant danger.

This warning comes as Louisiana continues to experience unsettled summer conditions. Meteorological discussions earlier in the week noted a combination of high temperatures and humid air contributing to instability, making conditions ripe for strong thunderstorms. Recent weather patterns have produced scattered strong storms.
