Update: Effective July 30, 2025, this boil advisory for the City of Sulphur has been rescinded.

Sulphur, Louisiana - Residents in the West Elizabeth Street, Ruth Street, and Wasey Street areas of Sulphur are under a boil water advisory after a water main break caused pressure to dip below required levels. City officials caution that until further notice, water should not be consumed unless it is properly boiled, due to the potential for contamination when water pressure is lost.
According to city statements, the water main break disrupted service and led to widespread low or no water pressure for many households. When water pressure drops in a municipal system, there is an increased risk that bacteria or other contaminants can enter the water supply. As a result, the City of Sulphur initiated the precautionary advisory to safeguard public health.
Residents who experienced loss of water are instructed to run their faucets until water runs clear before use. All drinking water—and any water used for food preparation, brushing teeth, or washing dishes—should be boiled for a minimum of one full minute, starting the timing when the water reaches a rolling boil. The city recommends using a clean container for boiling. If boiled water develops a flat taste, this can be remedied by either shaking the cooled water in a clean bottle, pouring it back and forth between two clean containers, or adding a very small pinch of salt to each quart.
The advisory will remain in effect until laboratory testing by the state confirms that the water is safe to drink.
