Lake Charles, Louisiana - Residents of Lake Charles gathered at Lock Park on Saturday, June 14, as part of the nationwide 'No Kings' demonstrations. According to their website and those organizing the events, this is a coordinated day of protest focused on concerns over authoritarianism and threats to democracy in the U.S. The event matched similar demonstrations occurring in cities across the country and drew local attention, prompting a statement from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory addressing public safety and the right to protest.

‘No Kings’ Protest in Lake Charles

The Lake Charles rally, held at the intersection of 7th Street and Ryan Street in Lock Park, was organized by volunteers in conjunction with national groups including No Kings, Indivisible SWLA, and 50501 SWLA. Organizers emphasized their commitment to nonviolent action, explicitly urging participants to de-escalate any confrontations and focus on peaceful protest.

The 'No Kings' movement is a response to what organizers see as increasing excesses and corruption in American government.

Local Law Enforcement Statement

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory released a statement the morning of the protest. Guillory assured residents that the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) was aware of the planned demonstration and supported the right to peaceful protest. “Everyone has the right to peacefully protest, and we fully support that right. We have full faith in our community to express themselves respectfully and responsibly. Our deputies will continue their normal patrols but will also be monitoring the situation to ensure everyone’s safety. If anyone chooses to disrupt the peaceful nature of the protest by breaking the law, they will be held accountable,” Guillory said.

Both law enforcement and organizers highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment.
