Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced upcoming lane closures at a key intersection in Calcasieu Parish near Lake Charles. Road crews will close alternating lanes at the north approach of the intersection of Louisiana Highway 397 (LA 397) and U.S. Highway 90 (US 90) from Wednesday, May 21, 2025, through Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The lane closures will be in effect daily from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., impacting both northbound and southbound traffic on LA 397. This is a high-traffic area in Calcasieu Parish, situated just east of Lake Charles and serving as a vital route for local commuters, commercial vehicles, and regional travelers.
DOTD officials state the lane restrictions are necessary to allow crews to perform pavement patching and curb repairs. Pavement patching involves removing and replacing damaged sections of the road surface to improve driving conditions and extend the lifespan of the roadway.
In addition to the alternating lane closures, a 10-foot width restriction will be enforced on LA 397 in both directions during work hours. This means vehicles wider than 10 feet—such as oversized commercial trucks, agricultural equipment, or certain emergency vehicles—will not be permitted to travel through the work zone. DOTD encourages these drivers to plan alternate routes to avoid delays and potential violations.
Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate possible traffic congestion, reduced speeds, and minor delays. DOTD urges drivers to exercise caution, remain attentive to posted signs and flaggers, and allow extra travel time during the work period.
