Carlyss, Louisiana — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has issued a notice for drivers in Calcasieu Parish regarding a scheduled lane closure on LA 27 northbound. The closure will extend from approximately 800 feet south of Burton Shipyard Road to Pearson Loop. Motorists can expect the northbound lane to be closed daily between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, and Friday, May 9, 2025, weather permitting.

According to DOTD officials, the temporary lane closure is necessary to allow Entergy crews to perform essential maintenance work in the area. Entergy, a major utility company, is responsible for supplying power and performing upkeep on electrical infrastructure. Maintenance activities like these are critical for ensuring reliable electricity service and preventing larger issues in the future.

During the closure, a flagging operation will be in effect. Flaggers are workers who help direct traffic safely through the work zone. Drivers are urged to approach the area with caution, follow all posted signs, and adhere to flaggers’ instructions to ensure both their safety and the safety of work crews.

The affected stretch of LA 27 is a key route in Carlyss, located in Calcasieu Parish in Southwestern Louisiana. This part of the highway sees a steady flow of local and commercial traffic. Lane closures such as this can cause delays, especially during peak travel hours. DOTD recommends that drivers plan for potential traffic congestion and consider alternate routes if possible.

In addition to the lane closure, weather conditions could impact the scheduled work. DOTD notes that all work is “weather permitting,” meaning that heavy rain or other adverse weather could delay or reschedule the maintenance activities.
