Baton Rouge, Louisiana - On the evening of March 12, 2025, a two-vehicle crash on LA 30 near Bluebonnet Boulevard in East Baton Rouge Parish resulted in the tragic loss of two young lives. The Louisiana State Police Troop A reported that the incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m., when 24-year-old Jeremiah Downing, a resident of Hahnville, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. Alongside him was 22-year-old Hunter LaGrange, also from Hahnville.

According to preliminary investigations, officers from the St. Gabriel Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Downing's vehicle for speeding. Instead of pulling over, Downing allegedly refused to comply and continued driving west on LA 30 at a high rate of speed, attempting to evade law enforcement. As he approached the intersection with Bluebonnet Boulevard, a 2016 GMC Sierra was traveling east on LA 30, preparing to make a left turn onto Bluebonnet Boulevard.

The situation escalated when Downing drove through the intersection despite a red traffic signal, leading to a head-on collision with the Sierra. Downing, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. LaGrange, who was also unrestrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, who was wearing a seatbelt, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. At this stage of the investigation, impairment has not been ruled out as a contributing factor and standard toxicology samples will be collected and analyzed to determine if substances played a role in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to gather more information regarding the events that led to this tragic outcome.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
