Gonzales, LA – Louisiana State Police have provided an update regarding the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that took place in Ascension Parish early on February 10, 2025. The incident, which resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man, has raised several questions about the circumstances leading up to the confrontation between law enforcement and the suspect.

Preliminary investigations indicate that shortly before 12:30 a.m., deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office (APSO) and an officer from the Gonzales Police Department (GPD) spotted a vehicle that matched the description of a car involved in an armed robbery in Gonzales. The law enforcement officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of LA 44 and W. Orice Roth Road.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, identified as Abdulrahman Ali of Gonzales, Louisiana exited while holding a pistol. Reports from LSP indicate that officers issued multiple verbal commands for Ali to drop the weapon. However, instead of complying, Ali allegedly fired the gun into the air and subsequently aimed it toward the officers. This prompted an immediate response from the deputies and the GPD officer, who discharged their firearms, striking Ali in the process.

Following the incident, Ali was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries. No law enforcement officers were harmed during the confrontation. The incident remains under active investigation, with Louisiana State Police collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events that transpired.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
