Lake Charles, Louisiana - The City of Lake Charles has established an emergency warming station at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, located at 2009 N. Simmons. The facility will remain open 24 hours a day until the current severe weather event comes to an end. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort involving the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, United Way of Southwest Louisiana, and Second Harvest, all working together to provide assistance during this challenging time.

Residents seeking shelter at the warming station are advised to bring identification. For those who do not have identification, a photograph will be taken for security purposes. To ensure the safety of all individuals at the facility, strict security measures will be enforced. Upon entering and re-entering the warming station, residents will undergo security screening, which includes passing through metal detection.

In addition to these measures, the warming station has implemented specific rules to maintain a safe environment. Prohibited items include weapons, illegal drugs, and alcohol. Furthermore, no animals are allowed within the facility.

The Lake Charles Police Department is actively providing security at the emergency warming station, ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests. This initiative underscores the community's commitment to supporting its residents during adverse weather conditions.

This is in addition to the warming stations found on this page:

As severe weather continues to pose risks, the City of Lake Charles urges residents in need of warmth and shelter to take advantage of this resource.
