Lake Charles, Louisiana - This fall, the City of Lake Charles and the Region 5 STEM Center are teaming up to bring back the popular Pumpkin Chunkin' Contest, a fun and educational event that promotes STEM-based learning among middle and high school students. On Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the shores of I-10 North Beach in Lake Charles will witness pumpkins flying through the air as teams of students showcase their creativity and ingenuity in building pumpkin launchers.

The contest, designed for middle and high school students, aims to encourage students to develop their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Teams will register to participate in the event, where they will design, build, and test their own pumpkin launchers. The launchers will be put to the test on November 2, as the teams compete to see whose pumpkin can fly the farthest.

The event is free and open to the public, making it a fun and educational outing for families and spectators. Registration is now open for teams interested in participating in the contest. To learn more or to register, teams can scan the QR code on the attached flyer, call the Region 5 STEM Center at (337) 217-4390, ext. 5335, or email [email protected].

The Pumpkin Chunkin' Contest is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity while having fun with their peers. By promoting STEM education, the event aims to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
