Cameron, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that the Cameron Ferry will be removed from service on August 31, 2024, to undergo a mandated dry dock inspection by the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The ferry will be out of commission for approximately six months while it undergoes a series of examinations and repairs.

During this time, a relief ferry will provide limited service across the ship channel, but with certain restrictions. Vehicles longer than 50 feet will be required to detour and use I-10, while the boat launch on the west side of the Calcasieu River, adjacent to the ferry landing, will be closed to ensure safety.

The dry dock inspection is a mid-cycle hull exam, which involves a thorough examination of the ferry's internal structure, as well as repairs and rehabilitation of major mechanical systems. This maintenance is crucial to ensuring the ferry's safety and extending its lifespan.
