City of Lake Charles Announces Juneteenth Holiday Observance and Schedule Changes

Lake Charles, Louisiana - The City of Lake Charles has announced that it will observe the Juneteenth Holiday on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. In observance of this holiday, Lake Charles City Hall will be closed, and there will be no trash or garbage pickup on this day.

All other garbage and trash routes will run on their regularly scheduled days, including Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday routes. All other services of the Department of Public Works, including Recycling Operations (Nelson Ball Field/Alma Lane and Roving Green Truck) and the Incinerator, will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, and will resume regular hours of operation on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Additionally, the Lake Charles City Council has made changes to its meeting schedule due to the holiday observance. At their June 3, 2024, regular meeting, the council unanimously voted to cancel their Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Agenda Meeting and Wednesday, June 19, 2024, City Council Meeting. The next City Council Agenda Meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, and the next City Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Both meetings will take place at 5:30 pm in the Lake Charles City Council Chambers (326 Pujo St.).

Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars and make note of these schedule changes to ensure a smooth transition during the Juneteenth Holiday observance.
