St. Charles, Louisiana - Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B initiated an investigation into a deadly crash involving multiple vehicles on U.S. 90 near Pier 90 on January 23, 2024, just after 6:30 p.m. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the tragic death of Tyler Scott, a 41-year-old resident of Hahnville, Louisiana.

According to the initial investigation, Scott was driving a 2005 Ford Ranger in the western direction on U.S.90, heading towards Pier 90. At the same time, a 2021 Audi Q8 was traveling in the opposite direction on U.S.90. While the Ranger was moving west, it collided with a large animal on the road. Due to the impact, Scott lost control of the Ranger and crossed over to the eastbound lanes, directly in the path of the Audi. The Ranger crashed into the Audi before colliding with a 2020 Ford Explorer. The collision with the Audi caused the Audi driver to lose control and cross over the median into the westbound lanes, where it collided with a 2018 GMC Sierra and a 2016 Toyota Camry.

Despite being restrained, Scott sustained injuries that were life-threatening and was taken to a nearby hospital where he eventually died due to those injuries.

The drivers of the Audi and the Explorer also sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in the vicinity. However, the driver of the Toyota did not sustain any injuries.

It is currently unclear if any of the drivers were impaired, but samples for standard toxicology tests were taken from all of them and will be analyzed. The investigation into this crash is still ongoing.

Troopers aim to emphasize the importance of consistently making wise choices when operating a motor vehicle. It is crucial to avoid driving under the influence, driving while exhausted, or driving while distracted, while also complying with all traffic regulations and ensuring that all passengers are securely fastened. Although not all accidents can be survived, adhering to these straightforward precautions can often be the determining factor between life and death.
