Louisiana Murder Suspect Apprehended in Texas, Body of Victim Found in Trunk

San Augustine County, Texas – A Louisiana murder suspect has been apprehended in Texas, and police have located the body of the victim in his trunk.

On July 5, 2023, around 4 pm, the Shreveport Police Department launched an investigation into the involvement of Kenavlon Baker in connection with a crime. They notified nearby areas that Baker had committed an aggravated kidnapping, with the victim being held in a stolen dark-colored Toyota vehicle.

Later, the Shreveport Police Department updated the surrounding areas when they discovered evidence at the crime scene indicating that the victim was deceased. At approximately 8 pm, the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office spotted the stolen vehicle crossing the Texas-Louisiana border and attempted to pull it over. However, the vehicle sped up and headed into San Augustine County in Texas.

The San Augustine Police Department intercepted the vehicle, which was traveling at a high speed of over 118 mph, as it entered San Augustine. Baker then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office found the deceased victim in the trunk of the vehicle and initiated an extensive search for Baker.

Multiple agencies, including the Texas Rangers, Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, Lufkin Police Department, Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Police Department, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, San Augustine Police Department and Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety, joined the search. The search was called off around 5 am due to a lack of leads on Baker’s whereabouts until around 7 am when members of the San Augustine community spotted Baker and reported his location.

Baker was apprehended without any further incidents and is currently being held in the San Augustine County Jail awaiting extradition back to Louisiana to face charges of murder.

The Sheriff’s Department of San Augustine County expressed gratitude to all the agencies that responded and the community’s watchfulness, which greatly helped in capturing Baker.
