23-Year-Old Louisiana Man Sentenced to Prison After Police Find Drugs, a Firearm, Packaging Supplies, and a Scale During Traffic Stop

Shreveport, Louisiana – A 23-year-old man in Louisiana has been sentenced to prison after police found drugs, a firearm, packaging supplies, and a scale during a traffic stop.

United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that Demetrius Johnson, Jr., 23, of Shreveport, Louisiana was sentenced by United States District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote for illegally possessing drugs and firearms.

Demetrius Johnson, Jr., 23, was sentenced to 66 months (5 years, 6 months) in prison followed by three years of supervised release for illegal possession of marijuana and a firearm. Shreveport Police Department officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Johnson on March 14, 2022. When the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled marijuana coming from inside and detained Johnson. A K-9 unit was summoned and alerted to the front driver’s seat, and the vehicle was searched. Officers discovered a Century Arms Draco pistol, as well as a backpack containing roughly 200 grams of marijuana in different packets, packaging supplies, and a digital scale, beneath the passenger seat of his vehicle during the search. A 9mm Glock magazine was also discovered in the vehicle.

The narcotics were tested at a crime laboratory and determined to be marijuana. The firearm was tested by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and it was determined to be a working firearm that had traveled in interstate commerce.

The ATF and the Shreveport Police Department investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Aaron Crawford.
