53-Year-Old Louisiana Felon Enters Guilty Plea to Gun Charge After Agents Discovered a Weapon in a Vehicle He was Driving
New Orleans, Louisiana - A 53-year-old Louisiana felon has entered a guilty plea to a gun charge after agents discovered a weapon in a vehicle he was driving.
Timrek Andrews, age 53, of New Orleans, Louisiana, pleaded guilty on March 2, 2023, to a violation of the Federal Gun Control Act pursuant to Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2) announced United States Attorney Duane A. Evans.
Andrews was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in a single count in the indictment. According to court filings, Andrews and a co-defendant were being watched by federal officials. Agents approached Andrews and discovered a weapon on the floorboard of the driver's seat, where he had previously sat. Andrews is not allowed to own a firearm since he was previously convicted in federal court of being a convicted criminal in possession of a firearm.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve together to minimize violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy to strengthen PSN on May 26, 2021, based on the following core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation looked into the situation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Strauss of the Violent Crimes Section is prosecuting the case.
