Three Suspects Arrested in Connection with Shooting in Louisiana that Took Place on February 10

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a shooting in LaPlace, Louisiana, that took place on February 10, 2023.

St John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana – The St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on February 15, 2023, that three suspects have been apprehended in connection with a shooting that occurred in LaPlace, Louisiana on February 10, 2023.

Raekwon Batiste, 21, Jonathan Williams, 18, and a 16-year-old male juvenile, all from LaPlace, Louisiana, were arrested on February 10, 2023.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Van Arpel Drive in LaPlace at noon in response to shots fired at a residence. Officers learned upon arrival that three male males, later identified as Williams, Batiste, and a 16-year-old, reportedly approached a home and fired multiple rounds at it. The males thereafter escaped on foot. Officers discovered through inquiry that the suspects fled to a residence in the 1400 block of Cartier Drive. The SWAT squad came shortly thereafter and did a security sweep of the property. After clearing the home, officers discovered the three suspects hiding in a closet and detained them.
There were no injuries. Additionally, officers seized an AR-15 inside the residence.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been revealed.

Williams was charged with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and aggravated criminal damage to property (felony). He was also wanted on a warrant issued by the Kenner Police Department. Williams is in detention pending the posting of a $60,000 bond.

Batiste was charged with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and aggravated criminal damage to property (felony). In lieu of a $60,000 bond, he is currently in detention.

The juvenile was charged with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and aggravated criminal damage to property (felony). He is also currently being held in custody.

This investigation is still ongoing.

​An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
