Louisiana Woman Pleads Guilty in Arson Case in Which She Set Fire to an Apartment Complex
Louisiana – According to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM), a New Orleans, Louisiana woman pleaded guilty this week in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court to an arson that took place in September 2020.
Jazlynn Major, 27, pleaded guilty to a single count of Aggravated Arson. Major was sentenced to six years in prison, with three and a half years suspended. On release, the sentence includes three years of active probation.
Major was arrested in September 2020 for setting fire to her former apartment complex in New Orleans’ 1600 block of Washington Avenue. The complex was home to more than 20 families at the time of the fire.
Major was apprehended in Huntsville, Texas after being identified as a suspect in the case.
The LASFM expressed gratitude to the New Orleans Fire Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Huntsville Police Department, the Texas Inspector General’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance in the resolution of this case.
