Louisiana Man Arrested for Aggravated Damage to Property After Allegedly Firing a Gun and Striking A Neighbor’s Home

Sulphur, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office reported on December 6, 2022, that on December 5, at around 11:00 p.m., deputies were summoned to a home on Alvin Road in Sulphur, Louisiana, in response to gunshots heard in the neighborhood. Deputies were also advised that one of the nearby homeowners had noticed damage to his residence consistent with a firearms projectile.
Deputies came and discovered a bullet hole in the victim's bedroom window. They also noticed damage to the closet door and a dresser in the room from a bullet. The evidence at the site indicated that the bullet came from the south of the property.

When deputies began combing the area, they noticed a man leave his garage, subsequently identified as Jacob W. Jones, 26, of Sulphur. Deputies also discovered a firearm on the ground in the garage, in plain sight. Deputies made contact with Jones, and while they attempted to detain him for safety, he began to resist. Deputies were able to apprehend Jones and transport him in the back of a CPSO transport vehicle, where he informed deputies that he fired multiple shots outside his home while attempting to protect his property from an unknown individual in his backyard. Jones was able to remove his handcuffs while in the van. Jones reportedly continued to physically resist deputies as they attempted to handcuff him again.

During the course of the inquiry, police spoke with a witness who stated that he heard a single gunshot followed by a burst of gunshots. A search warrant for Jones' home was acquired and signed by Judge Tony Fazzio. During the execution of the warrant, detectives discovered a .300 caliber semi-automatic AR15 style rifle, as well as several spent .300 caliber shot casings outside his home.
Jones was then arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, aggravated property damage, simple escape, and resisting an officer. His bond was imposed at $102,500 by Judge Tony Fazzio.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Deputy Sr. Cpl. Courtney Bertin made the arrest in this case. Detective Christopher Scharp of the CPSO is the case's principal investigator.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
